Brookside Psychiatric Specialists’ Payment Information

Understanding your payment options and mental health insurance coverage

At Brookside Psychiatric Specialists, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to understand how payment works for your care. Whether you’re using insurance, paying out of pocket, or have questions about costs, this page will guide you through the basics.

Insurance Coverage

We are in-network with the following individual insurance plans:

  • Anthem / Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Sentara Health Plans (formerly Optima) & Sentara Medicaid Plans

  • Tricare

  • Aetna
  • United Healthcare & United Healthcare Medicaid plans

  • Anthem HealthKeepers Plus Medicaid Plans

If you are covered by one of these plans, we will bill your insurance directly as a courtesy to you. However, it is important to remember that:

  • You are responsible for knowing your insurance coverage.
  • You are responsible for all costs not covered by your insurance, including co-pays, deductibles, and any services not covered.
  • You must notify us right away if your insurance changes to avoid delays or unexpected costs.

Out-of-Network Insurance

If your insurance is not listed above, you may still be able to receive partial or full reimbursement for our services using your out-of-network benefits.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You are responsible for submitting your claims.
  • We will provide a detailed receipt (called a “superbill”) to help with your reimbursement.
  • You can also use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) to pay for your appointments.

Self-Pay (Fee for Service)

If you are not using insurance, we welcome self-pay clients. Before your first appointment, we will provide a Good Faith Estimate—a clear outline of what your care is expected to cost.

You can request this estimate at any time, and we are happy to answer questions about fees so there are no surprises.

Your Rights and Privacy

We are committed to protecting your personal and medical information, including any details related to your mental health. We do not share your health information without your permission unless required by law.
